Turnkey pool construction & renovation in Alicante

Around Alicante city, pool projects look different from the hillside villas further north. Playa de San Juan, Cabo de las Huertas, San Juan de Alicante, El Campello and Vistahermosa are mostly residential areas on gentler ground, with detached and semi-detached houses on urban plots, gated communities and family homes used all year.
Owners are more often Spanish professionals and families, many living here permanently, alongside international residents. Gardens are smaller and closer to the neighbours, so the pool has to fit carefully alongside terraces, parking and planting. Solmarea Pools studies the plot, designs the pool with you, prepares the budget and manages the works through to handover, coordinating the builders, installers and specialists each stage needs. One point of contact throughout.

Pools for urban plots and compact gardens
In Playa de San Juan, San Juan de Alicante and Vistahermosa, many houses sit on plots where every metre counts. A pool must share space with a driveway, a terrace, a barbecue area and sometimes a small lawn, and it has to respect boundary distances and privacy from the neighbouring houses.
That calls for precise design rather than size. A rectangular pool along a boundary wall, a narrow lap pool, or a compact pool with a built-in bench and shallow area for children often gives more use than a larger basin. Access is usually easier than on the northern hillsides, but tight side passages and party walls may still limit machinery.
Equipment placement deserves attention too. Pumps and heat pumps produce noise, and on small plots they are best placed and housed so they do not disturb the household or the neighbours.
Cabo de las Huertas and the coast to El Campello
Cabo de las Huertas is a rocky headland of low cliffs and small coves between the city beaches and Playa de San Juan. Its streets combine older chalets with larger contemporary houses, many with sea views. Further north, El Campello and areas such as Muchavista and the coves towards Coveta Fumà follow a similar pattern.
Here the sea is close and the ground can be rockier. Excavation may meet rock, and salt air affects stone, metal fittings and equipment. On the most exposed plots, sheltering the pool from the wind with walls, glazing or planting makes a large difference to comfort.
Owners in these areas often want a pool that works with outdoor living: a covered terrace, an outdoor kitchen, lighting for evenings. Our page on outdoor living covers how pool, terrace and garden can be planned together.
Renovating chalet pools for year-round living
Many family homes around Alicante have pools from the 1970s to the 2000s, built when the house was. They often have worn gresite, cracked coping, outdated filtration and no heating. Because many owners live here full time, they tend to want a pool usable for more of the year and easier to maintain.
Typical improvements include:
- New interior finish and coping after checking the shell for leaks
- Variable-speed pumps and modern filtration to reduce consumption
- An inverter heat pump and a cover to extend the swimming season
- Saltwater treatment or automated dosing, with attention to hard water and limescale
- Safety elements for children, such as covers, fencing or alarms
Indicative ranges for this kind of work are available publicly, but only our site visit and detailed budget give a real figure for your pool.
Licences, communities and water
The area spans several municipalities: Alicante itself, Sant Joan d'Alacant, El Campello and Mutxamel among them. Each town hall (ayuntamiento) sets its own licence requirements for new pools and structural works; we confirm what applies to your plot and coordinate the application with the architect or technical professional required.
In gated estates and communities, the community's rules may also matter, for example on boundaries, noise or the appearance of works. It is wise to check those early, and for shared pools the decision usually goes through the general meeting.
Alicante has a dry climate with low annual rainfall, and water-saving measures can be applied in some municipalities during dry periods. A good cover, a correctly sized filter and attention to leaks all reduce water loss. Let us know these priorities when you describe your project, and we build them into the design from the start.

Questions about pools in Alicante
Can a pool fit into a small garden in Playa de San Juan?
Often yes. A narrow lap pool or a compact pool with a bench and shallow area can suit small urban plots. Boundary distances and municipal requirements apply, and we confirm what is possible on your plot during our site visit.
Is heating worthwhile if I live in Alicante all year?
For year-round residents it is a common upgrade. An inverter heat pump combined with a cover can extend the season to most of the year. Running costs depend on use, orientation and settings; we size the system as part of our project study.
Which town hall do I deal with for a pool in San Juan or El Campello?
Sant Joan d'Alacant and El Campello are separate municipalities from Alicante city, each with its own licence requirements. We confirm which applies and coordinate the application with the architect or technical professional required.
