Infinity pools
Infinity pools, where water meets the horizon
On the hillsides above Jávea, Moraira, Benissa, Calpe and Altea, an infinity edge can turn a view into part of the architecture. Done well, it is the quietest element of the house.

Definition
What an infinity pool is
An infinity — or vanishing-edge — pool has one or more edges where water flows over a weir into a hidden catch basin below. Seen from the house or terrace, the surface appears to continue into the landscape or the sea.
The effect depends on precise levels, the right viewpoint and careful hydraulics. It is as much a matter of architecture as of engineering.
Fit
When an infinity pool makes sense
- 01
There is a view worth framing
Sea, bay, mountains or open countryside — beyond the edge, not a neighbour’s roof.
- 02
The plot falls away
Sloping plots allow the catch basin to sit below the edge, hidden from the main viewpoint.
- 03
The house is designed around it
Lines, levels and terraces that lead the eye to the edge.
- 04
You value calm over spectacle
The best infinity pools are simple. The view does the work.
Technical
Technical requirements
Structure
An edge wall built to tight tolerances, often on a slope, sometimes with retaining walls and deeper foundations.
Catch basin & balance tank
Sized for overflow, evaporation and bathers, with level control and an automatic top-up.
Hydraulics
Pumps and pipework designed for continuous flow, ideally variable-speed to control noise and consumption.
Waterproofing
Critical on the weir, the external face and the basin, where water runs constantly.
Wind & evaporation
Exposed coastal sites lose more water; edge design and covers help.
Licences
Sloping and coastal plots may have additional requirements, which we confirm and coordinate.

Design
Design and integration
Alignment is everything: the edge should coincide with the horizon from the place you will look at it most — the living room, the main terrace, the lounger. Materials are usually reduced to a few — stone, a dark or sand finish, a fine edge.
Lighting is kept low and warm so the edge still reads at night. Planting below the edge hides the basin and softens the structure.
Some existing pools can be converted to an infinity edge if the structure and plot allow it. See pool renovation.

Questions
Can an existing pool be converted to an infinity pool?
Sometimes. It depends on the structure, the position of the pool relative to the slope and whether a catch basin can be built. We assess it on site.
Is an infinity pool more expensive?
Generally yes, because of the edge structure, catch basin, extra hydraulics and the work often required on sloping plots.
Do infinity pools lose more water?
The overflow increases evaporation, especially in wind. A well-designed basin, automatic top-up and a cover limit losses.
