Turnkey pool construction & renovation in Calpe

Costa Blanca coastline with cliffs, coves and villas among pine trees

Calpe is shaped by the Peñón de Ifach, the limestone rock that rises from the sea at the end of the town. Around it, the housing is unusually varied: apartment towers along the Arenal-Bol and La Fossa beaches, residential communities with shared pools, and hillside villas in areas such as Maryvilla, Cucarres and Gran Sol.

Pool projects follow that mix. A private villa owner may want a new infinity pool facing the Peñón, while a community of owners may need to renovate a large shared pool from the 1980s. In each case, Solmarea Pools studies the property, designs the pool with you, prepares the budget and manages the works through to handover, coordinating the builders, installers and specialists each stage needs. One point of contact for the whole project.

Hillside villas with a view of the Peñón

Maryvilla, Cucarres, Gran Sol, La Canuta and Empedrola climb the hills behind the coast, and many plots look straight at the Peñón de Ifach or across the bay towards Altea. These are mostly detached villas on sloping, terraced plots, many built between the 1970s and 1990s.

For a new pool, the slope brings the usual questions: retaining walls, rock during excavation and access for machinery along steep streets. For an existing pool, the question is often how much to keep. Some owners re-line and update the equipment; others reshape the pool, raise or lower the edge to open the view, and rebuild the terrace around it.

Orientation matters. Plots facing the sea catch strong afternoon sun and wind from the water, so shade, wind protection and durable, non-slip materials make the pool area more usable through the year.

Community pools and shared spaces

A large part of Calpe's housing is organised in communities of owners (comunidades de propietarios), from small groups of bungalows to large apartment complexes near Arenal-Bol, La Fossa and Cometa. Their shared pools are often decades old and used intensively in summer.

Community projects bring their own considerations:

If you are the president or administrator of a community, we prepare the brief and budget with you for the general meeting and then manage the project with you as one point of contact, from the first inspection to handover.

Salt air, hard water and older equipment

Calpe's position on an open bay means wind and salt reach well inland. Metal fittings, ladders, lighting and pool-side furniture corrode faster than many owners expect, and some natural stones need sealing to resist both salt and sun.

The water is hard and calcareous, as across most of Alicante province. Limescale builds up on tiles at the waterline, in heat exchangers and in salt chlorinator cells, so the treatment system and its maintenance should be chosen with that in mind.

Many older villa and community pools still run on single-speed pumps and outdated filters. Replacing them with variable-speed pumps, a well-sized filter and, where useful, a heat pump and cover can improve comfort and running costs. Our guide to pool renovation sets out what can typically be changed.

Licences and timing in Calpe

New pools and significant structural works require permission from the Ajuntament de Calp. The town hall sets the licence requirements, which may differ for a private villa and for a community; we confirm them for your property and coordinate the application with the architect or technical professional required.

Calpe is busy in summer and during holiday periods, and both villa owners and communities usually prefer works in autumn, winter or early spring. Starting the conversation a few months ahead leaves time for a site visit, a considered design and budget, any licence and the works themselves.

If you split your time between Calpe and another country, we manage the project while you are away and report progress with photos, videos and direct contact, so you can follow each stage from wherever you are.

Questions about pools in Calpe

Can you help a community of owners in Calpe renovate its shared pool?

Yes. We study the pool, prepare the brief and budget with the president or administrator, and manage the works through to handover, with one point of contact for the community.

Is it worth renovating a 1980s villa pool in Maryvilla or Cucarres rather than replacing it?

Often, if the shell is sound. A renovation can change the finish, steps, edge, terrace and equipment. During our site visit we inspect the structure and pipework to confirm whether renovation is the right route.

How does salt air in Calpe affect a pool?

It accelerates corrosion of metal fittings and can weather some stones and finishes. Choosing suitable grades of stainless steel, sealed stone and robust equipment helps. We specify materials for your exposure as part of the design.
